Lincoln, Neb. – The No. 56 Nebraska women’s tennis team (10-1, 0-0 Big Ten) recorded two wins as it hosted a double header on Sunday against Wyoming (4-6, 0-0 Mountain West) and Kansas City (4-9, 0-0 Summit League) at the Dillon Tennis Center.
To start off the day, the Huskers bested the Cowgirls 4-1. The action started with doubles play. The undefeated duo of Raphaëlle Lacasse and Samantha Alicea played in the No. 1 position against Sophie Zehender and Ana Fernandez, beating them 6-2. On Court 2, Isabel Adrover Gallego and Anfisa Danilchenko dropped the match against Maria Oreshkina and Violetta Borodina 6-3. Lucy Loy and Ana Carmen Zamburek clinched the overall doubles point for Nebraska in the No. 3 spot against Wyoming’s Noesjka Brink and Nikol Dobrilova 6-4.
Lacasse began singles play for the Huskers in the No. 4 position and was defeated by Violetta Borodina, 6-2, 6-2. Alicea picked up the first singles point for NU 6-4, 6-3 against Oreshkina on Court 2. In the No. 5 spot, Danilchenko bested Dobrilova 6-3, 7-6 (3). To clinch the overall win, Adrover Gallego beat Brink 6-1, 6-7 (6), 6-3 on Court 3.
The match against Wyoming concluded with unfinished matches on Courts 1 and 6.
For the second match of the day, the Huskers battled the Roos, winning 5-0. To kick off doubles action, the team of Loy and Carmen Zamburek swept Kansas City’s Eva Kresovic and Catherine Chrobak 6-0 on Court 3. Lacasse and Alicea followed suit in the No. 1 spot and bested Michela Xibilia and Laura Munoz-Baroja 6-1. The match on Court 2 went unfinished.
Singles play kicked off with Alicea defeating Munoz-Baroja in the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-1. Consecutive wins proceeded on Courts 4, 2 and 5. Danilchenko bested Kate Miley on Court 4 6-3, 6-0. In the No. 2 position, Adrover Gallego beat Chrobak 6-0, 6-3 and to conclude play, Lacasse defeated Joanna Cardona on Court 5, 6-1, 6-2.
The final match of the day was called with unfinished matches on Courts 1 and 6.
Up next, the Huskers stay at home to welcome Wichita State on March 10 at 5 p.m. CT.
