Huskers Sweep Bluejays for Third Consecutive Victory

The Nebraska women’s tennis team continued its impressive start to the season with a dominant 7-0 victory over Creighton on Tuesday evening in Lincoln, Nebraska. This win marks the Huskers’ third consecutive sweep and their 32nd victory over the Bluejays, solidifying their strong form early in the season.

The match kicked off with the doubles competition, where Nebraska quickly took charge. On Court 3, Lucy Loy and Jillian Roa secured their first doubles win together, defeating their Creighton counterparts 6-3. Although Raphaelle Lacasse and Maja Pietrowicz faced a setback on Court 1, losing 6-2 to Malvika Shukla and Valerie Negin of Creighton, the No. 27 duo of Ana Zamburek and Anfisa Danilchenko clinched the doubles point for the Huskers with a 6-2 win on Court 2.

Holding a 1-0 lead, Nebraska swiftly moved into singles play, where the team’s depth and talent were on full display. Lucy Loy extended the Huskers’ lead with a 6-1, 6-0 victory on Court 6. Ana Zamburek continued the momentum with a 6-0, 6-1 win on Court 4. Maja Pietrowicz then clinched the overall match victory for Nebraska with a straight-sets win on Court 3.

The singles matches also saw a couple of thrilling tiebreak victories for the Huskers. Anfisa Danilchenko overcame a second-set loss to win 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-3) on Court 2, and Raphaelle Lacasse battled to a tiebreak win on Court 1, adding to Nebraska’s tally. Maria Taranova rounded out the sweep with a 6-4, 7-5 victory on Court 5.

Up next, the Huskers are set to host South Dakota on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 5 p.m. (CT) at the Dillon Tennis Center. The match promises to be another exciting event and will be streamed on Playsight, with live stats available on huskers.com.

Tuesday’s performance against Creighton showcased the Huskers’ strength across both doubles and singles play, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting season for Nebraska women’s tennis.
