2027 Quarterback Weston Nielsen Talks Nebraska Offer

Weston Nielsen is a 2027 quarterback prospect from Bastrop High School in Bastrop, Texas. He has a 6-foot-2 frame and has many offers, including one from Nebraska.

Nielson, who completed his freshman season last fall, recently caught up with HuskerMax to discuss his recruitment.

“Nebraska seems unique because their program is on the rise and I think Coach Rhule is going to do great things,” Nielsen stated. “It was an honor to receive an offer from such a distinguished program. My parents have a very good friend who played football for Nebraska (Andrew Shanle). He brought us a bunch of hats and shirts when we were little, and I used to wear the gear all the time. Very cool.”

The Huskers had a unique pitch to the talented quarterback.

“He told my coach that he knew I had an offer from Oregon and wanted to offer me too so I don’t play against them! That was good!”

The young talent couldn’t really connect with the coaches, but he still felt the Huskers’ presence.

“Well, being that I’m a freshman, the coaches cannot really connect with me. However, Coach McGuire (Garret McGuire, wide receivers coach) came to watch me throw and offered me with my head coach. He was a great guy and seemed really excited about Nebraska, and I liked that.”

He also hopes to visit Lincoln.

“Yes, I don’t have it on the calendar yet but I would love to see it in person. Being that I’m just 15, I don’t really have ‘top’ schools just yet. Would really like to visit as many as possible and get to know the coaches before I can decide if a school is a top choice.”
