Huskers Sweep DePaul in Dominant Home Opener

In a scintillating display of tennis prowess, the Nebraska women’s team kicked off their home season with a decisive 7-0 victory over DePaul at the Dillon Tennis Center on Friday evening, extending their perfect start to 2-0.

The Huskers showcased their depth and skill, starting strong in doubles play. The senior duo of Raphaëlle Lacasse and Isabel Adrover Gallego led the charge with a 6-2 win on Court One against DePaul’s Emily Casati and Yuliya Kizelbasheva. Despite a setback on Court Two, where juniors Ana Zamburek and Anfisa Danilchenko fell 6-3, Maja Pietrowicz and Lucy Loy clinched the crucial doubles point with a 6-2 victory on Court Three.

The momentum carried into singles play, where Nebraska dominated. Ana Zamburek set the tone with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 win on Court 5. Maja Pietrowicz continued the trend, defeating Eleanor Nobbs 6-1, 6-3, while freshman Maria Taranova secured the overall win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.

Isa Adrover Gallego showed resilience on Court 1, bouncing back from a first-set loss to triumph 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 [10-7] over Sasha Stula. Anfisa Danilchenko mirrored this fighting spirit, overcoming Hannah Smith 6-4, 4-6 [10-7] on Court 2. Lucy Loy completed the sweep with a nail-biting 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) win, showcasing the depth and tenacity of the Huskers.

Head Coach German Dalmagro lauded the team’s performance. “We knew DePaul is a good team. They play with energy and fight hard,” he said. “We rose to the occasion and played superbly across all courts. I’m very proud of the team’s execution and how we’ve learned to win even when not playing our best. It’s a great feeling to win at home in front of our fans.”

The Huskers have set a high bar for the season and look to carry this momentum into their next challenge against Harvard on Sunday. With a strong start and a clear demonstration of skill and teamwork, the Huskers are poised for a promising season ahead.
