Husker Lovett Earns First Career NCAA Wrestler of the Week Honor

Lincoln, Neb. – Nebraska wrestling standout Ridge Lovett (149) added another accolade to his already impressive resume on Tuesday, earning his first career NCAA Wrestler of the Week honor. The announcement comes after Lovett dominated his recent matchup against Michigan’s No. 6 Austin Gomez, improving his undefeated record to a perfect 20-0 on the season and 11-0 in dual competition.

Lovett wasted no time asserting his dominance against Gomez, racking up an impressive seven points in the first period. He strategically chose to start on top in the second period, further solidifying his control with a nearfall and accumulating over four minutes of valuable riding time. Despite a late takedown by Gomez in the third period, Lovett, currently ranked No. 1 in the nation at 149 pounds, held firm to secure the decisive 11-4 victory.

This dominant performance not only extended Lovett’s undefeated streak but also marked the fourth consecutive win for the Huskers against ranked opponents. The victory also signifies a significant achievement for the program, marking the first weekly honor for a Husker wrestler since Peyton Robb’s Big Ten Wrestler of the Week recognition in December 2023.

Lovett’s momentum couldn’t come at a better time, as the Huskers gear up for a crucial matchup against No. 1 Penn State this Sunday, February 18th. The highly anticipated dual will take place in University Park, Pennsylvania, with kickoff set for 3:00 PM CT and will be televised on BTN. With his newfound recognition and unwavering spirit, Lovett undoubtedly represents a formidable force for the Huskers as they strive for victory against the nation’s top-ranked team.

Can Lovett maintain his undefeated streak and lead the Huskers to an upset victory over Penn State? Tune in on Sunday to witness this thrilling showdown and see if Lovett continues to shine as one of the nation’s most dominant wrestlers.
