Huskers Open Season at Drake Invite



The Nebraska women’s tennis team begins it’s fall season in Des Moines, Iowa, this weekend at the Drake Invite. Drake University is set to host the three-day women’s invite with six Huskers traveling to the tournament. 

Juniors Samantha Alicea and Jessica Aragon will be competing in both singles and doubles. Alicea had a 1-2 singles record playing out of the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. The Plano, Texas, native spent her time on the doubles court with two different partners throughout the season while going 1-1 overall.  Aragon had a 3-3 singles record, and throughout the season, doubles partners Makoric and Aragon had a 1-0 overall record. 

Freshmen Jillian Roa and Lucy Loy will be competing for their first time as Huskers this weekend, and Chloe Kuckelman will also make her fall debut. Last spring, Kuckelman had a 14-2 singles record playing out of the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. Last season,the Overland Park, Kan., native spent her time on the doubles court with two different partners while going 11-2 overall.  Fellow sophomore Vivien Sandberg will also be competing in both singles and doubles this weekend. Last spring, Sandberg had a 0-4 singles record playing out of the No. 6 spots and competed on the doubles court with four different partners going 1-4 overall. 

A total of nine programs will be represented at this weekend’s tournament, including four Creighton, Omaha, South Dakota, and North Dakota. Competition in Des Moines begins Friday morning with the opening rounds of singles and doubles.
