Huskers Handle Shockers, 6-1 – University of Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb.,–The Nebraska women’s tennis team improves to 9-3 on the year and 7-0 at home after defeating Wichita State 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers competed outside at the Dillon Tennis Center for the first time this season.

NU picked up the doubles point behind a 6-0 win from Claire Reifeis and Isabel Adrover Gallego at No. 2 and a 6-2 win from Chloe and Ellie Kuckelman at No. 3 to go up 1-0 in the match.

In singles competition, Reifeis did not drop a single game in her 6-0, 6-0 defeat over Lingwei Kong. Reifeis improves to 6-3 on the year and is currently on a four-match win streak.

Kristina Novak suffered NU’s lone loss at the hands of Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva at the No. 2 spot. 

Jessica Aragon stepped into the No. 6 spot topping Ting-Ya Hsu 6-3, 6-2. Shortly after, Chloe Kuckelman clinched the match for the Huskers with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alexandra Lazarova at the No. 4 spot. 

Isabel Adrover Gallego improves to 4-1 on the season after a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Marta Bellucco at No. 3. 

Ellie Kuckelman closed out the match with a win at the No. 5 spot in a third set super-tiebreaker. Kuckelman defeated Esther Thebault 7-6(2), 3-6, 11-9 to close out the match and give the Huskers the 6-1 win.

The Huskers hit the road to take on No. 38 Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan., Wednesday, March 4, at 12:30 p.m. Nebraska returns home on Saturday, March 7, for a double-header against Wyoming and Illinois State at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
