Huskers Finish Day Two of Competition at Drake



Des Moines, Iowa —The Nebraska women’s tennis team had another successful day of competition at the Drake Invite, as three Huskers are in tomorrow’s top two singles finals. 
 
Freshmen Jillian Roa and Lucy Loy had another impressive day as Huskers. Roa defeated North Dakota’s Andrea Jansson 6-3, 6-4 and continued to dominate in her second match against Bluejay Sarah Wilcox 6-2, 6-0. She will be competing in tomorrow’s finals match. Loy won her first matchup against UNO’s Brooke Covington 6-1, 7-6 (5) and lost her second match of the day against Creighton freshman Siri Kongara 6-2, 2-6, 9-11.

Sophomore Vivien Sandberg fought hard against Natalie Kmoskova, but fell short 6-1, 7-5. Following the match, Sandberg withdrew from the tournament due to injury. 

Fellow sophomore Chloe Kuckelman defeated Daria Walczak 6-1, 6-1 to start the day. Kuckelman gained another win in her second match against Habiba Aly of South Dakota 6-7 (7), 6-2, 10-8. Kuckelman will be facing teammate, Roa, in the finals. 

 

Junior Samantha Alicea won both of her matches as she defeated Rachel Osborn 6-2, 6-3 and Nina Zdravkovic 3-6, 6-0 (10-1). Alicea was the third Husker to make it into the finals as she is competing in the other draw.

Kuckelman (NEB) def. Habiba Aly (USD) 6-7 (7), 6-2, 10-8 

Roa (NEB) def. Sarah Wilcox (Creighton) 6-2, 6-0

Alicea (NEB) def. Nina Zdravkovic (UND) 3-6, 6-0 (10-1)

Siri Kongara (Creighton) def. Loy (NEB) 2-6, 6-2, 11-9
