The Nebraska men’s tennis team continued play at the Badger Invitational on Friday, competing against host Wisconsin in singles and Indiana in doubles.

The Huskers began the day with seven singles matches against Wisconsin in the morning. Junior Victor Moreno Lozano and freshman Nic Wiedenhorn each won the opening set against their Badger opponents, before falling in three sets in highly competitive matches. Moreno Lozano fell to Wisconsin’s Lenard Soha, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, while Wiedenhorn dropped a 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 2-6 decision to Mihailo Popvic in the first single match of Wiedenhorn’s collegiate career. Sophomore Chester Wickwire pushed Wisconsin’s Jesper Freimuth in a 6-3, 7-5 loss, while junior transfer Brandon Perez made his Husker debut in a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Jared Pratt.  Sophomore Albert Sprlak-Puk was competitive in a 2-6, 5-7 loss to Robin Parts, while sophomore Shunya Maruyama and junior Patrick Cacciatore each suffered 4-6, 0-6 defeats to their respective opponents.

Following the morning singles matches against Wisconsin, Nebraska took on Minnesota in doubles action in the afternoon, winning two of the three doubles matches. The duo of Perez and Sprlak-Puk defeated Minnesota’s Siim Troost and Vlad Lobak by a 6-4 score. Maruyama and Wiedenhorn posted a 6-3 victory over the Gopher tandem of Daniel Martin and Sebastian Vile. Nebraska nearly swept the doubles matches, but Cacciatore and Moreno Lozano lost a tiebreaker to Minnesota’s Jackson Allen and Bodin Zarkovic (Minnesota), 6-7 (4-6).

Nebraska returns to action on Saturday, when the Huskers take on Indiana in doubles action at 1 p.m. before facing Minnesota in singles play at 1:45 p.m. Although the Huskers are facing Wisconsin, Minnesota and Indiana in both singles and doubles matches in the four-day tournament, there will be no team scoring at the Badger Invitational.
