Nebraska at Badger Invite: Thursday Results

The Nebraska men’s tennis team began its 2021 season Thursday night, facing off against the Wisconsin Badgers in doubles play in the first of four days of competition at the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wis.

Six Huskers made their season debut Thursday, as Nebraska competed in three doubles matches against Wisconsin. Freshman Nic Wiedenhorn made his debut as he and junior teammate Victor Moreno Lozano showed promise despite falling to Wisconsin’s Lenard Soha and Scott Sculley, 6-2. The sophomore tandem of Albert Sprlak-Puk and Shunya Maruyama, competing as doubles partners for the second time in their careers, lost a 6-1 decision to the Badgers’ duo of Jared Pratt and Robin Parts. Rounding out the opening day of the season were junior Patrick Cacciatore and sophomore Chester Wickwire, who fell to Wisconsin’s Gabriel Huber and Tim Dzhurinskiy by a score of 6-2. Cacciatore and Wickwire, like Wiedenhorn and Moreno Lozano, were competing as doubles partners for the first time in their Husker careers.

Nebraska returns to action on Friday, when the Huskers take on Wisconsin in singles action at 9 a.m. before facing Minnesota in doubles play at 1 p.m. Although the Huskers will face Wisconsin, Minnesota and Indiana in both singles and doubles matches in the four-day tournament, there will be no team scoring at the Badger Invitational.
