Huskers Sweep Minnesota to Finish Weekend Play

Lincoln, Neb. – The Huskers (7-1, 0-0 Big Ten) swept the Golden Gophers 4-0 (4-4, 0-0 Big Ten) on Sunday morning at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.

When doubles play began, the Huskers only needed to win one match to secure the doubles point win due to Minnesota forfeiting one doubles match because of injuries on its team. On Court 1, Samantha Alicea and Raphaëlle Lacasse bested Zoey Weil and Zeyneb Sarioglan, immediately clinching the doubles point. The teams decided to conclude doubles play with the team of Anfisa Danilchenko and Isabel Adrover Gallego leading on Court 2 against Minnesota’s Anet Koskel and Aiva Schmitz.

Due to Minnesota’s injuries, when singles play began, the Gophers gave up two singles matches on Court 5 and 6, and Nebraska started singles play with a total of three overall points. Alicea clinched the final overall point of the match by defeating Schmitz 7-6 (3), 6-0. The match concluded with unfinished matches on Court 1, Court 2 and Court 4.

Up next, the Huskers stay at home to host Colorado at 12 p.m. CT at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
