Huskers Shutout No. 49 Badgers

Lincoln, Neb.- The No. 40 Nebraska women’s tennis team improved to 9-3 after sweeping No. 49 Wisconsin 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Huskers earned the doubles point and three consecutive singles wins to defeat the Badgers (7-6, 6-5 Big Ten)
 
In the doubles portion of the day, Nebraska duo Claire Reifeis and Isabel Adrover Gallego defeated Wisconsin’s Ava Markham and Antonela Stoica 6-1 at No. 2. 
Hayley Haakenstad and Chloe Kuckelman found similar success in their defeat of Anna Makaraova and Charmaine Seah 6-1 at No. 3. At the conclusion of doubles play, Kristina Novak and Maja Makoric led the Badger duo of Xinyu Cai and Nastasya Semenovski 4-3.
 
In singles play, Claire Reifeis dominated at No. 4 to win her match against Nastasya Semenovski 6-3, 6-1, her second singles win of the weekend. At the No.1 spot Novak defeated Ava Markham in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Novak has won three straight matches to improve to 11-4 on the year. 
 
At the No. 5 spot, Chloe Kuckelman defeated Anna Makarova 6-7(7), 6-4, 6-1, to move the overall score to 4-0 and secure the victory for the Huskers. Kuckleman improves to 11-2 on the season following today’s win. 
 
At the end of match play Adrover Gallego was in her third set against Xinyu Cai with the score at 0-6, 6-4, 3-5 at No. 2. Similarly, Haakenstad was in her third set looking to finish of Charmaine Seah 5-7, 6-4, 3-2 at No. 6. 
 
Maja Makoric sat 6-4, 6-7(4), 1-0 against Antonela Stoica at the conclusion of singles play.
 
The Huskers return to the courts on Sunday March 28 as they travel to Iowa City to take on the Hawkeyes at 11:00 a.m (CT.)
