Huskers Rank No. 28, Novak at No. 88 in ITA Rankings

The Nebraska women’s tennis is ranked No. 28 in the nation following the ITA’s first computer rankings of the season that were announced on Wednesday morning. In addition to the team ranking, sophomore Kristina Novak enters the singles rankings at the No. 88 spot.

The Huskers earn the ranking with a 9-3 record on the year. Last weekend NU recorded two wins over Minnesota and No. 49 Wisconsin. The Huskers dominated both matches defeating the Golden Gophers 6-1 on Friday and shutting out the Badgers 4-0 on Sunday.

Kristina Novak is 11-4 in singles play this season, including wins over No. 70 Rachel Hanford of Minnesota and No. 89 Maria Shusharina of Northwestern. The sophomore from Slovenia has competed out of the No. 1 spot for the Huskers in every match this season and is currently on a three-match winning streak.

Nebraska is one of six Big Ten teams ranked in the latest ITA Top-50 including No. 6 Northwestern, No. 9 Ohio State,  No. 14 Michigan, No. 37 Iowa, and No. 48 Wisconsin.

Nebraska will look to continue its success this Sunday as they travel to Iowa City, Iowa to face the No. 37 Hawkeyes for the first time this season.
