Huskers Set to Welcome Northwestern, Illinois

The No. 53 Nebraska women’s tennis team (10-6, 3-1 Big Ten) is set to host Northwestern and Illinois this weekend. The Huskers will take on the Wildcats on Friday at 5 p.m. followed by an 11 a.m. matchup against the Fighting Illini on Sunday.

Scouting Northwestern 

• The Wildcats finished the 2020-21 season with a 19-6 overall record, including a 17-4 record in the Big 12 conference play.

• Northwestern’s Head Coach Claire Pollard, the fourth women’s head coach in the program, is in her 23rd season.    

• The Wildcats are currently 4-0 in the Big 10 conference with wins over Wisconsin, Minnesota, Rutgers and Maryland. 

Series History with Northwestern

• The Wildcats lead the overall series, 10-2. The teams last faced each other on March 12, 2021 at Northwestern with the Wildcats winning, 4-3. 

Scouting Illinois

• The Fighting Illini finished the 2020-21 season with a 9-9 overall record, including an 8-8 record in the Big 12 conference play.

• Evan Clark was named head coach for Illinois women’s program in the summer of 2016.    

• Illinois is currently 3-1 in the Big 10 conference with its one loss coming from Wisconsin earlier this month. 

Series History with Illinois

• Illinois leads the series, 6-5, but the Huskers have won their last two matchups with the Fighting Illini. 

Huskers See Early Success in the Conference Play 

• Currently, the Huskers are 3-1 in conference play and have recent wins over No. 65 Purdue and Indiana. 

• Last season, Nebraska played a conference-only schedule and recorded five wins in its first six games of the season.
