Huskers Drop Match Against Northwestern

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team (10-7, 3-2 Big Ten) dropped its matchup against Northwestern (10-5, 5-0 Big 10) 1-4 Friday evening at the Dillon Tennis Center. 

Competition began with doubles competition. Sophomores Isabel Adrover Gallego and Chloe Kuckelman dropped their match to Northwestern’s Christina Hand and Briana Cowley, 2-6. In spot No. 3, Ellie Kuckelman and Samantha Alicea fell short to Sydney Pratt and Hannah McColgan, 3-6. The No. 1 team of Kristina Novak and Maja Makoric finished doubles play with an unfinished match, 5-3. 

To start off singles play, Novak grabbed a two-set win over #106 Clarissa Hand at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Makoric battled at the No. 3 spot, but fell, 3-6, 5-7. Alicea dropped her match at No. 6, 2-6, 1-6, and at No. 2, Adrover Gallego fell in straight sets to Shusharina, 3-6, 5-7 resulting in an overall win for the Wildcats. Ellie, in the No. 5 spot, faced the Wildcats’ Leong and Chloe at No. 4 faced Ema Lazic with both matches ending unfinished. 

Up next, the Huskers will stay home and face the Penn State Nittany Lions on Sunday, April 3 at 11 a.m. CT.
