Huskers Finish #51 in ITA Rankings



The Nebraska Women’s Tennis team landed the No. 51 spot in the final 2020 ITA rankings. With an impressive 11-4 overall record and a 9-0 mark at home, the Huskers just missed out on a top 50 spot.  

Nebraska falls one spot behind No. 50 Florida International, despite sweeping the Panthers 4-0 at the Dillon Tennis Center. 

The Huskers finished the year 1-0 in Big Ten play, recording a 6-1 triumph at Rutgers on Feb. 26. 

Huskers Highlights

The 2020 Huskers defeated three teams they lost to in 2019. (Air Force, Iowa State, Wichita State).

Chloe Kuckelman was one of three Huskers to earn nine singles wins during the spring season. Kuckelman went 9-5 overall, including a 6-2, 6-4 win over Nadeen Lieberman of Air Force to clinch the 4-3 Husker win. 

Ellie Kuckelman finished the season on a six-match win streak to earn a 9-2 singles record in her debut season. Alongside twin sister Chloe, the Freshmen duo from Overland Park, Kan., went 8-3 in doubles competition, finishing the year on a six-match win streak.

Kristina Novak was 9-3 in singles while playing out of the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the lineup. The freshman from Radovljica, Slovenia, started the season on a four-match win streak, including a victory of Baylor’s Mel Krywoj at the No. 1 spot. 

Senior Claire Reifeis went 6-4 in singles, moving her total singles wins as a Husker to 74. The Indianapolis, Ind., native was 5-3 overall in doubles while going 3-0 with partner Isabel Adrover Gallego.

Adrover Gallego, a freshman, went 5-2 for the Huskers in her debut season. The Mallorca, Spain native helped NU to a 4-0 victory over TCU with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kate Paulus at the No. 3.

Senior Hayley Haakenstad opened the season with four straight wins and would drop just one match on the season to finish 6-1. Haakenstad was critical to NU’s doubles success, going 10-3 overall with five different partners. 

Sophomore Jessica Aragon went 3-3 in singles play while earning a 5-2 doubles mark during her sophomore season. Aragon knocked off Abigail Warner of Air Force 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot.

Freshman Anna Baranovski joined the Husker roster just days before the first match but made an immediate impact for NU. The Sunrise, Fla., native went 1-3 on the year, including a three-set triumph over Anastasiia Kotsyuba of Colorado State. 

Senior Emma Worley finished the year 1-0 with a 7-6(4), 6-4 win over Grace Dodd of Sacramento State. Worley helped Nebraska to a 7-0 win in its season-opener over the Hornets.
