Two Bowlers Among Class of 2020 Graduates

Lincoln — A pair of Husker bowlers earned degrees on Saturday as part of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s virtual commencement ceremony. Estefania Prieto (Bogota, Colombia) and Meghan Straub (Lincoln, Neb.) were two of the 66 current or former NU student-athletes in the class of 2020.

Prieto was a mainstay of the Husker bowling program during her career. She started for the Huskers for three seasons, while helping NU to third-place finishes in 2018 and 2019. As a senior last season, she averaged a 203.2 while appearing in all nine tournaments for the Huskers. Her best performance in 2019-20 placing fourth at the 2020 Big Red Invitational, marking her career top-five finish as a Husker. Prieto, who graduated with a double major in Management and Marketing, was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten performer and a six-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. She was also a three-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for her efforts in the community.

Straub was a three-time All-American as a Husker, earning first-team All-America honors as a senior in 2019. She helped the Huskers to four top-three finishes at the NCAA Championships, including runner-up finishes in 2015 and 2016. As a senior in 2018-19, she averaged a team best 214.692, the fifth-highest scoring average in school history and posted five top-five finishes, including a pair of tournament wins.  In the classroom, she was an eight-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and was one of seven honorees of the Outstanding Scholar Award announced last month at the Virtual Night at the Lied, as she graduated with better than a 3.90 GPA. Straub, who graduated with a double major in Journalism and Secondary English Education, was a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. Straub was NU’s female nominee for the 2019 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, spanning all of NU’s athletic programs and received the Sam Foltz Hero 27 Leadership Award in 2018.
