Thorbjarnarson, Banton, Webster Honored – University of Nebraska



Lincoln – Nebraska Athletics announced the recipients of the 2020-21 men’s basketball endowed scholarships on Friday.

The Husker men’s basketball honoree for the 2020-21 season include Thorir Thorbjararson (Bus Whitehead Scholarship), Dalano Banton (Hosman Family Scholarship) and Kobe Webster (David G. Toren Athletic Fellowship).

Thorir Thorbjarnarson was selected as the recipient of the 2020-21 Bus Whitehead Scholarship. The honor recognizes a player who has a high level of athletic achievement, moral character, effective leadership skills, integrity and a commitment to excellence in all endeavors. The endowed scholarship, which was created in 2013, honors one of the most legendary figures in Husker basketball history. Whitehead was a two-time all-conference selection who guided the Huskers to consecutive Big Seven championships in 1949 and 1950.

Dalano Banton was tabbed as the recipient of the 2020-21 Hosman Family Scholarship. The honor recognizes a player who has demonstrated leadership, a high level of character and commitment to the team and is in good academic standing.  It was established in 2016 by the Dale & Patsy Hosman Family Foundation, and Banton is just the second recipient of the scholarship.

Kobe Webster was chosen as the recipient of the 2020-21 David G. Toren Athletic Fellowship. This award recognizes a student-athlete of high academic ability, integrity and leadership. It has been presented since 2006 in honor of the late David Toren.
