Huskers Triumph Over Duquesne to Stay Undefeated

Lincoln, Neb. – In an electrifying performance at Pinnacle Bank Arena, the Nebraska men’s basketball team continued their perfect start to the season, defeating Duquesne 89-79 on Wednesday night. This victory marks Nebraska’s best season opening since 2008-09, as they now stand at an impressive 6-0.

Juwan Gary Shines in Career-Best Performance

Juwan Gary, the junior forward, played a pivotal role in Nebraska’s triumph, scoring a career-high 20 points. He was particularly influential in a crucial 13-0 run in the second half, contributing nine points that extended Nebraska’s lead from a narrow 55-54 to a more comfortable 68-54. Gary’s remarkable night saw him hitting 7-of-10 shots from the floor, including two 3-pointers, and a flawless 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Team Effort Leads to High Scoring Game

The Huskers’ offense was firing on all cylinders, with five players scoring in double figures. Leading the charge was Keisei Tominaga, who topped the scoring with 23 points. Josiah Allick added 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while Brice Williams and Rienk Mast contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively. Nebraska’s offensive prowess was on full display as they achieved their highest point total since the 2021-22 season.

Efficient Play and Solid Defense

The Huskers displayed remarkable efficiency, going 28-of-31 at the free-throw line, with a near-perfect 21-of-22 in the second half. Additionally, they tied a school record with just two turnovers for the entire game and dished out 18 assists.

Duquesne’s Resilient Effort

Despite Nebraska’s dominance, Duquesne showed resilience, narrowing a 17-point deficit to just seven points with 4:31 left in the game. The Dukes pulled within six points a few minutes later, but Nebraska held firm to secure the win.

First-Half Highlights

The game started competitively, with Duquesne initially taking an early 16-11 lead. However, Nebraska responded with Gary and Jarron Coleman leading a scoring run to take their first lead. The first half concluded with Duquesne narrowly ahead at 39-37.
