Steinforth Secures Decathlon Title at Jim Click Shootout

Till Steinforth captured the decathlon title on Friday at the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Ariz., behind six event wins and nine personal-best performances. 

After winning three decathlon events on Thursday, Steinforth opened Friday with a decathlon 110m hurdles victory with a 14.52. Steinforth pitched in another personal-best performance in the pole vault, clearing 16-0 3/4 (4.90m) to win it, moving him up to first in the overall decathlon standings with two events remaining. 

In the javelin, Steinforth threw for 181-2 (55.22m) to gather his sixth win. Steinforth covered the track in 4:52.50 during the 1500m to cap off his 10 events and secure the title. Steinforth’s 7,845 points is the fourth-best in school history and the second-best in the nation this season.

Kolby Heinerikson threw for 121-10 (37.14m) in the decathlon discus to place second and tied his pole vault personal-best, finishing fifth with a 14-9 (4.50m). In the javelin, Heinerikson finished third with a mark of 171-0 (52.12m). He wrapped up the decathlon with 6,753 points, finishing fourth in the standings.

Favour Wanjoku leaped 18-8 1/2 (5.70m) in the heptathlon long jump to finish fifth. Kerrigan Myers was NU’s top finisher in the heptathlon javelin, throwing for 99-2 (30.23m) to place 10th. Scholl produced the fastest 800m time for the Huskers with a 2:38.68 to close out the heptathlon. 

At the conclusion of all seven events, Madi Scholl tallied 4,862 points to finish 11th in the heptathlon standings.

After two days of multis, the remainder of the team is set to compete tomorrow. Field events begin at 3 p.m. (CT) and running events start at 7:20 p.m. (CT).
