Spence Claims Two Titles in Season Opener



LincolnEmma Spence led the Huskers claiming the floor and all-around title in the season opening meet while newcomer Sophia McClelland earned the balance beam title. Despite taking three event titles, the Huskers fell to #15 Arkansas, 196.225-195.000. 

Rotation One 

The Huskers started the meet off on vault, finishing with a team score of 48.850. Martina Comin led NU with a 9.825 while Emma Spence earned a 9.800. Sophomore Katie Kuenemann notched a 9.775. Sophia McClelland earned a 9.750 on her first routine as a Husker while Kinsey Davis earned a 9.700. Ayzhia Hall rounded out the rotation with a 9.675. 

The Razorbacks earned a 49.100 on uneven bars where they were led by Norah Flatley, who tallied a 9.900. 

Rotation Two 

NU earned a 48.700 on uneven bars and were led by Davis, who notched a 9.850. Spence followed closely with a 9.825. Clara Colombo earned a 9.775 while McClelland finished with a 9.650. In her NU debut, Csenge Bacskay tallied a 9.600. Genesis Gibson finished the rotation with a 9.475. 

Arkansas earned a team score of 48.950 on vault. Flatley and Cami Weaver tied for a meet-best score of 9.850 on vault. 

Heading into rotation three, the Razorbacks led, 98.050-97.550. 

Rotation Three

McClelland led the Big Red on beam, tallying a 9.900, helping the Huskers to a team score of 49.050. McClelland also claimed the event title. Spence notched a 9.825 while Hall finished with a 9.800. Allie Gard made her Nebraska debut with a 9.755. Bacskay earned a 9.750 while Colombo finished the rotation with a 9.000. 

Frankie Price and Lauren Williams led Arkansas each earning a 9.875 on floor and claiming a share of the event title. The Razorbacks finished with a team score of 49.150 on floor.

Rotation Four 

Nebraska finished the meet on floor with a team score of 48.350. Spence led the Huskers with a career-high score of 9.875, earning a share of the event title. Kylie Piringer and Hall each tallied a 9.825 followed by a 9.775 from McClelland. Martina Comin finished with a 9.050 and Halle Rourke earned a 8.750, each recording falls. 

Arkansas finished the meet on beam with a team score of 49.025. 

The Razorbacks took home the meet title with a final score of 196.225 while NU finished with a team score of 195.000. 

All-Around 

Spence claimed the all-around title with a score of 39.325. McClelland finished second in the all-around after earning a score of 39.075. 

Up Next 

The Huskers return to competition next Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational. Nebraska will face George Washington, Cornell and William and Mary in Washington, D.C. The meet will start at 12 p.m. (CT) and fans can follow live updates on Twitter (@HuskersWGym).
