Quarterback Adrian Martinez’s health had an impact on Nebraska’s play-calling against Minnesota, Scott Frost said after Wednesday’s Husker football practice.
“Some of the option stuff and quarterback run stuff that we might have added to the game plan, it just wasn’t going to be available to us,” Frost said.
Frost didn’t specify the issue but said Martinez “came out of the game clean, so he’s going to be as healthy as he’s been a week from Saturday.”
The Huskers are idle this week and will return to action Oct. 30 against Purdue. Wednesday’s practice was the second of just two scheduled for this week.
As for two players injured in the Minnesota game, Frost said running back Rahmir Johnson must pass concussion protocols before returning to contact work. Safety Deontai Williams is “day to day, week to week” with his knee injury.
The loss to Minnesota was Nebraska’s fifth of the season, and all five have been by one-score deficits. Frost said the Huskers need to improve at “making plays when it counts.”
“I’m tired of saying we’re one play away,” Frost said, while also acknowledging that the staff could be “a touch more aggressive” with play calling on offense early in games.
