Red Edges White at Intrasquad Meet

The Nebraska track and field team held its annual intrasquad meet on Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track, with the red team edging the white team by six points, 109.5-103.5.
 
On the women’s side, the red team outscored the white team, 54.5-47.5. The two teams split the horizontal jumps with Mikaelle Assani winning the long jump (20-6 1/2, 6.26m) for the red team and Ashley McElmurry placing first in the triple jump (40-8 1/4, 12.40m) for the white squad. The red team’s Jenna Rogers won the high jump (6-0, 1.83m) and Jessica Gardner added a victory in the pole vault with a clearance of 12-5 1/2 (3.80m). Taylor Latimer swept the throws events for the white squad, winning the shot put (51-0 3/4, 15.56m) and weight throw (64-5, 19.63m).
 
The red team’s Johanna Ilves won the 60m with a time of 7.98, while Kayla Hugg clocked a 25.21 in the 200m and 56.00 in the 400m to add a pair of wins for the white squad. Running for the red team, Winsome Harris won the 60m hurdles with run of 8.65.
 
On the men’s side, the white squad edged the red team by one, 56-55. The white team swept the horizontal jumps, with Matthias Algarin winning the long jump (24-0 1/2, 7.32m) and Terrol Wilson capturing the title in the triple jump (48-11 3/4, 14.93m). Kevin Shubert placed first in the shot put (59-8 1/2, 18.20m) for the red team while Henry Zimmerman represented the white team with a first-place finish in the weight throw (66-11 1/2, 20.41m). Mayson Conner cleared 7-0 1/4 (2.14m) in the high jump and Garrison Hughes cleared 16-10 3/4 (5.15m) in the pole vault to add two victories to the red squad.
 
Lorenzo Paissan clocked a 6.76 in the 60m, Alex Nelson ran a 21.50 in the 200m and Darius Luff clocked a 7.93 in the 60m hurdles to give the red team three wins on the track. Cory Berg won the 400m with a time of 48.75 and Niko Schultz covered the track in 1:52.20 to win the 800m to help lead the white team.
 
The Huskers return to the track when Nebraska hosts the Graduate Classic on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 14-15 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track.
