Talley Sets School Record at K-State Winter Invitational



Alex Talley posted a school record and a pair of event wins in his Husker debut at the K-State Winter Invitational on Saturday in Manhattan, Kan.

The West Fargo, N.D., native set a school record in the weight throw with a launch of 73-3 1/2 (22.34m) to earn his first victory as a Husker. Also in his husker debut, Maxwell Otterdahl finished runner-up in the weight throw with a mark of 66-1 1/2 (20.15m), placing him ninth all-time in school history. With the one-two finish, Talley and Otterdahl currently sit in second and eighth nationally.

Talley collected his second win of the day with a distance of 65-7 (19.99m) in the shot put. Burger Lambrechts Jr. placed second with a mark of 62-1 3/4 (18.94m), while Otterdahl finished fourth at 59-2 3/4 (18.05m). Talley’s mark puts him fourth all-time in school history and Talley, Lambrechts Jr. and Otterdahl move to first, fourth and 11th in the national rankings, respectively.

Making her debut with the Big Red, Axelina Johansson won the shot put with a mark of 56-6 1/2 (17.23m). Johansson’s mark ranks fourth all-time in school history and currently ranks first in the country.

The Huskers continue the season when Nebraska hosts the Graduate Classic on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 14-15 at the Devaney Center Indoor Track.
