NU Defeats Utah State to Sweep the Weekend

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten) finished its opening weekend with its second win of the spring season against Utah State (1-1, 0-0 Mountain West) 4-0 at the Dillon Tennis Center on Sunday morning. 
 
To kick off the doubles action, the duo of Anfisa Danilchenko and Samantha Alicea faced Monique Burton and Magdalena Nunez Pureco on Court 2 and won, 6-1. On Court 1, Raphaëlle Lacasse and Ana Carmen Zamburek matched up against Zeynep Naz Ozturk and Sidnee Lavatai to clinch the overall doubles point, 6-3. To wrap up doubles play, Vivien Sandberg and Isabel Adrover Gallego played Annaliese County and Lisa Küng on Court 3 and were tied 5-5 before the match was called. 
 
With the Huskers leading 1-0, singles play started with a win on Court 5, as Lucy Loy defeated Magdalena Nunez Pureco 6-4, 6-2. In the No. 2 spot, Carmen Zamburek bested Lisa Küng, 6-4, 6-1, giving NU its third overall point. On Court 6, Jillian Roa clinched the win for the Huskers in her season debut against Sidnee Lavatai, 6-1, 6-3. 
 
The teams decided to conclude the match with Danilchenko on Court 1, Adrover Gallego on Court 3 and Alicea on Court 4. 
 
Up next, Nebraska will host Gonzaga on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. CT. at the Dillon Tennis Center.
