Lambrechts Jr. Leads Huskers at NCAA Championships

The Nebraska track and field team wrapped up competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Senior thrower Burger Lambrechts Jr. led the Huskers with a fourth-place finish in the shot put to earn first-team All-America honors, the fourth All-America accolade of his career. Lambrechts Jr. had a season-best throw of 67-0 1/2 (20.43m) on his second attempt, which was good enough to improve his finish at indoor nationals by one spot from his fifth-place finish in 2021.

Darius Luff, a Lincoln High graduate, placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.82 to earn first-team All-America honors for the first time in his career. The sophomore was competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships for the first time and was the only Big Ten hurdler to reach the 60-meter hurdles final.

Jenna Rogers finished seventh in the women’s high jump, clearing 6-0 (1.83m) to earn first-team All-America honors. The Big Ten champion and top freshman in the event nationally, Rogers recorded the best finish by a Husker women’s high jumper at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2010.

Alex Talley followed up on his seventh-place finish in the weight throw on Friday with a 12th-place finish in the shot put on Saturday. Talley threw 63-1 1/2 (19.24m) to collect his second All-America honor of the weekend and the fifth of his career.

Axelina Johansson finished 11th in the shot put at 54-2 1/2 (16.52m) to cap her freshman season with second-team All-America honors. Mayson Conner placed 13th in the men’s high jump to earn second-team All-America honors. Like Lambrechts Jr., Conner earned his fourth-career All-America accolade. The Big Ten champion’s best bar on Saturday was 7-0 1/2 (2.15m).

The Husker men scored nine team points and finished in a tie for 24th, their best finish since 2015. The Husker women scored two points from Rogers’ high jump finish and tied for 47th.
