Junior Champion Yost Signs with Huskers

Nebraska men’s golf head coach Brett Balak added a fourth talented golfer to his first Husker recruiting class when he announced the signing of New Mexico state champion Quinn Yost on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

“We are thrilled that Quinn has chosen Nebraska,” Balak said. “He is exactly the kind of person we are looking for in our program. He is a good student with high character who has a lot of potential as a golfer and he is not afraid to win. He is a great addition to our men’s golf family. His dad is a PGA professional and Quinn has grown up around golf, but his game is really just starting to take off. He definitely has a lot of upside, and we can’t wait for him to get to Nebraska so we can start helping him develop that potential.”

Yost joins fellow high school stars Davis Johnson (Minnesota) and Evan McDermott (Michigan) and junior college standout Grant Jabenis (Nebraska) in bringing talent and potential to the future of the Husker men’s golf program in 2022-23.

Yost, a high school senior from Farmington, N.M., is coming off the biggest win of his career, capturing the title at the Notah Begay III Jr. Golf National Championships (Nov. 13-15) in Louisiana. Going head-to-head against some of the nation’s best junior golfers, Yost fired a three-round score of 204 (-12) at Koasati Pines at the Coushatta Golf Course in Kinder, La. After shooting one-over-par 73 in the first round, Yost fired a 64 (-8) in the second round to match his career best. He secured the title with a final-round 67 (-5).

Yost, who is the top-ranked golfer in New Mexico according to Junior Golf Scoreboard, qualified for the national event on Aug. 7 by tying for first at the New Mexico Regional with even-par 144 over two rounds at the Twin Warriors Golf Course.

As a junior at Piedra Vista High School, Yost won the Class 5A individual state championship with a 67 (-5) over 18 holes. He helped Piedra Vista to a state runner-up finish as a team.

In May of 2021, Yost also won the Jr. Americas Cup/IMG Jr. World Qualifier with a two-round total of 140 after back-to-back rounds of 70 at the New Mexico Tech Golf Course.

In August of 2019, Yost was one of nine teenage golfers selected to take part in a four-day golf academy hosted by World Golf Hall of Fame member and broadcaster Nick Faldo.
