Huskers Win First B1G Play



Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team (5-4, 0-0 Big Ten) battled its matchup against the Minnesota Gophers (11-2, 0-0 Big Ten) 6-1 Saturday Morning at the Dillon Tennis Center. 

The Huskers started off strong in doubles competition, with the No. 1 team of Kristina Novak and Maja Makoric battling for the win over Minnesota’s Emilee Duong and Rachel Hanford resulting in an unfinished match, 5-5. Defeating the Gophers on court two was Chloe Kuckelman and Isabel Adrover Gallego to Dalila Said and Anfisa Danichenko, 6-3. In the No. 3 spot, Samantha Alicea and Ellie Kuckelman rounded out doubles play as they overcame Ekin Ercetin and Lucy Lu, 6-4. 

 

To start off singles play, Novak battled till the end with Duong in a three-set match in the No. 1, 6-0, 4-6,6-2. Chloe was successful out of the No. 3 spot against Rizzolo in two straight sets, 6-2, 7-6(4). The No. 4 spot Makoric defeated Kavouni, 6-2,6-1. Adrover Gallego fought hard in the No. 2 spot, 2-6, 3-6 to Minnesota’s Hanford. Freshman Jillian Roa at the No. 6 spot, with a three-set match to Dalila Said, 6-2,2-6,6-7(6). Alicea ended her match at No. 5, 5-7,7-5,10-6.  

Up next, the Huskers will stay home and face Omaha on Wednesday, March 9 at 5 p.m. CT.
