Huskers Win 15 Events at Ward Haylett

Nebraska track and field closed the regular season on Saturday at the Ward Haylett Invitational, hosted by Kansas State. NU earned 15 event titles on the day at RV Christian Track in Manhattan, Kan.

Madison Yerigan claimed the women’s high jump title, clearing 5-9 1/4 (1.76m). Brooklyn Miller matched her personal-best jump, placing second with a 5-9 1/4 (1.76m). Madi Scholl pitched in a third-place finish with a clearance of 5-7 1/4 (1.71m).

NU took the top three spots in the men’s high jump, led by Tyus Wilson clearing 6-11 (2.11m) to win it. Reid Nelson added a clearance of 6-11 (2.11m) to finish second and Mayson Conner placed third with a 6-9 (2.06m).

Tyler Brown won the men’s discus, tossing a personal-best 182-4 (55.57m). Kalynn Meyer placed third in the women’s discus with a distance of 174-6 (53.19m).

Meyer went on to secure the victory in the shot put with a mark of 53-1 (16.18m). Taylor Latimer earned runner-up honors with a throw of 52-5 1/2 (15.99m).

With a leap of 25-0 1/2 (7.63m), Micaylon Moore won the men’s long jump. Clayton Keys placed third with a jump of 23-11 (7.29m). In the women’s long jump, Zionn Pearson finished third with a distance of 19-9 3/4 (6.04m). 

Kerrigan Myers crossed the line at 14.08 to win the 100m hurdles. Till Steinforth earned the 110m hurdles title with a personal-best run of 13.95.

In the 800m, Cortez Ruiz captured the win with a time of 1:52.45. Lorenzo Paissan pitched in a personal-best 200m time to win the event in 20.93.

Cory Berg won the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of 51.96. Karlie Moore added a victory on the women’s side, running the 400m hurdles in 1:00.59.

In the men’s shot put, Nick Ronnfeldt threw for 55-1 (16.79m) to finish as runner-up, while Steinforth placed third with a mark of 45-3 (13.79m).

Lorenzo Paissan sped to the men’s 100m victory in 10.44. Johanna Ilves was the women’s 100m runner-up with a time of 11.95.

Meghan Walker placed second in the 400m with a time of 56.72. Steinforth added a runner-up finish on the men’s side with a 49.47 in the 400m. Jacquelyn Abanses clocked a 4:41.32 in the 1500m, finishing second. 

Nebraska competes at the Big Ten Championships next, hosted in Bloomington, Ind. The conference meet begins at 11 a.m. (CT) on May 12 and runs through May 14.
