Huskers Welcome Mavericks to Lincoln

The Nebraska women’s tennis team will host the Omaha Mavericks this week at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center on Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. (CT).

Scouting Omaha 

• The Mavericks finished the 2020-21 season with a 9-14 overall record, including a 1-5 record in Summit League conference play.

• Omaha Head Coach Adam Summitt is in his fourth year with the Mavericks.    

• The Mavericks are currently 1-1 in Summit League conference, last playing the Kansas City Roo’s, winning 6-1. 

Series History with Omaha 

• The Huskers lead the overall series, 2-0. The teams last faced each other on Feb. 26, 2017 at the Sid Dillon Tennis Center.

• The Huskers will host Texas Tech on March 16 at 11 a.m.at the Sid Dillon and Hazel Tennis Center. 

Novak Holds Steady at No. 1

• Kristina Novak is 12-6 in singles play this season, including a ranked win over No. 45 Julia Adams of Furman.

• The sophomore from Slovenia has competed out of the No. 1 spot for the Huskers in every match this season.

Two Freshmen Join Nebraska

• Lucy Loy, a native of Fishers, Ind., played club tennis at Indianapolis Racquet Club for Coach Jamie Dieveney and competed for Fishers High School, under Coach Dave Heffern. A four-time letterwinner, Loy received all-state honorable mention in 2018, second team all-state honors in 2019 and first team all-state honors in 2021. Loy was a regional finalist in 2019 and a state semifinalist in 2021. On the club side, Loy was a Midwest level 2 and 3 doubles winner and a level 3 singles winner.

• A native of La Crescenta, Calif., Jillian Roa was a standout player in high school where she won the singles junior ITF title in Skopje, Macedonia. She was also regional U18 Champion of the Balearic Islands and reached the singles finals in a junior ITF in La Nucia, Spain
