Nebraska is coming off a strong opening weekend. NU gave No. 8 Northwestern all they could handle last week, ultimately falling to the Wildcats, 4-3. On Sunday, the Huskers were victorious over Illinois after a 5-2 win at the Dillon Tennis Center. Nebraska will look to build off that success entering the weekend.

Makoric Remains Unbeaten

Nebraska freshman Maja Makoric remains unbeaten in singles play this season. The Dobrovo, Slovenia native went 3-0 at the Wisconsin Invitational two weeks ago defeating opponents from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. Last weekend, Makoric beat Northwestern’s Briana Crowley 6-3, 6-3 and Illinois’ Ashley Yeah 6-1, 7-6(2) both at the No. 4 spot to improve to 5-0 on the year.

Novak Goes 2-0 in Opening Weekend

Sophomore Kristina Novak enters this weekend’s contests following two wins at the No. 1 spot in singles. The Radovljica, Slovenia native beat Maria Shusharina of Northwestern in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 and Emilee Duong of Illinois, 6-2, 6-4, improving to 3-2 on the season.

Scouting Minnesota
The Golden Gophers are currently 0-1 on the season following a 5-2 loss at Wisconsin. In 2019, Minnesota went 12-3 overall including wins over Iowa and Missouri. Freshman Rachel Hanford has found early season success for Minnesota with singles wins over Ava Markham of Wisconsin and a win over Kristina Novak at the Wisconsin Invitational.

The Huskers lead the series over Minnesota 8-4. The last time the two met was April 20, 2019 with Minnesota edging Nebraska 4-3 in Minneapolis.

The Golden Gophers are led by Head Coach Catrina Thompson.

Scouting Wisconsin
The Badgers enter Sunday’s contest with a 2-1 record and are coming off a 5-2 win over Minnesota. Wisconsin was selected to compete at the ITA Kickoff Weekend Jan. 24-25. The Badgers fell to No. 5 Pepperdine before earning a 4-3 win over Denver.

Wisconsin’s Xinyu Cai currently holds a 6-3 record this season including three wins over ranked opponents. Nebraska’s Kristina Novak defeated Cai 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(5) at the Wisconsin Invitational.

The Huskers lead the all time series over Wisconsin, 6-3. The last time the two met was April 21, 2019 when Wisconsin defeated NU 4-3 in Madison.

The Badgers are led by Head Coach Kelcy McKenna.

Prior to Sunday’s match, Wisconsin is set face Iowa on Friday afternoon.
