Huskers Travel East to Face Rutgers, Maryland

The No. 58 Nebraska women’s tennis team (10-8, 3-3 Big Ten) is set to face Rutgers and Maryland this weekend. The Huskers will take on the Scarlet Knights on Saturday followed by a matchup against Maryland on Sunday. Both games are slated for an 11 a.m. CT start.

Scouting Rutgers

• The Scarlet Knights finished the 2020-21 season with a 4-13 overall record, including a 4-12 record in the Big 10 conference play.

• Rutgers’ Head Coach Hilary Ritchie is in her second season. 

• The Knights are currently 0-5 in conference play.

Series History with Rutgers

• The Huskers lead the overall series, 5-1. The teams last faced each other on April 11, 2021 in New Jersey with Nebraska winning, 5-2. 

Scouting Maryland

• The Terrapins finished the 2020-21 season with a 3-16 overall record, including an 1-14 record in Big 10 conference play.

• Katie Dougherty was named the 10th head coach for Maryland’s women’s program in the summer of 2016.    

• Maryland is currently 2-3 in the conference with its last win coming against Minnesota earlier this month. 

Series History with Maryland

• Maryland leads the series, 2-3, dropping their last matchup with the Terrapins on April 29, 2021. 

Huskers See Early Success in the Conference Play 

• Currently, the Huskers are 3-3 in conference play and have recent wins over No. 65 Purdue and Indiana. 

• Last season, Nebraska played a conference-only schedule and recorded five wins in its first six games of the season. 

The Fierce Duo  

Maja Makoric and Kristina Novak have not lost as a doubles duo since January 29 against Duke. 

• The have played every match for the Huskers at the No. 1 spot and are currently 8-1 on the season.
