Huskers Top Coyotes, 5-3 – University of Nebraska


The Nebraska softball team played South Dakota Saturday morning, winning 5-3.

Senior Anni Raley led the Huskers offensively, tallying 3 of the 10 total hits. Home runs from Raley and junior, Mya Felder, helped NU hold off the Coyotes. Defensively, Nebraska was able to hold South Dakota to six scoreless innings. 

NU was the first on the board during the bottom of the third inning. Peyton Glatter started the inning off with a double to right center. Raley followed up with a two-run homer over the left field fence to put the Huskers up 2-0 heading into the fourth inning. 

Nebraska added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Courtney Wallace singled to center field, and advanced after Glatter was walked. A single to left field from Raley, extended the Huskers lead to 3-0 heading into the fifth inning. 

South Dakota was able to put up three runs in the fifth inning. Mia Kraimer singled to right center field. After two walks, the bases were loaded for the Coyotes. USD saw their first run after Charis Black was hit by a pitch, advancing the runners. A ground ball from Rylee Nicholson, allowed the runner at third to score while Billie Andrews got the runner out at second. Gabby Moser hit a double to center field, bringing in the third run of the inning.

NU added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mya Felder homered over the left field fence, notching her first home run in a Husker uniform. A single to left field from Raley brought in a runner extended the lead to 5-3. 

Wallace started in the circle for the Huskers, and recorded five strikeouts. Olivia Ferrell closed the game for NU and added three strikeouts while only allowing two hits. 

The Huskers are back in action Sunday, Oct. 17 for a double header against Colorado State at Bowlin Stadium at 10:00 a.m. The games will be live-streamed on Facebook and Twitter.
