Huskers to Host Minnesota and No. 49 Wisconsin

The No. 40 Nebraska women’s tennis team (7-3 Big Ten) is set to host Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Huskers will take on the Gophers on Friday at 6 p.m. followed by an 1 p.m. match-up against the Badgers on Sunday. NU beat both Minnesota and Wisconsin previously this season. 

Makoric Seals the Deal for the Huskers.  

The Huskers are coming off a 1-1 weekend on the road. After falling to Northwestern 2-4 on Friday, Maja Makoric clinched the win for the Huskers on Sunday by defeating Ashley Yeah 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 to bring the overall match score to 4-3.

The freshman from Slovenia currently sits 9-4 overall this season in singles. 

Scouting Minnesota

Minnesota kicked off the season by traveling to Madison, Wisconsin for a match against the Badgers. The Gophers struggled, falling to the first five of its Big Ten opponents before sweeping Maryland 7-0 at home. Since then, the Gophers have earned two more victories against Rutgers and Indiana and dropped a close 3-4 match to Purdue. 

Freshman Rachel Hanford and Zeyned Sarioglan are leading the Badgers in Singles as Hanford is 3-1 in her last four matches and Saioglan in undefeated in her last four. 

Scouting Wisconsin

The No. 49 Badgers opened up the 2021 season at the ITA Kickoff Weekend where they faced No. 5 Pepperdine and Denver University. After falling to Pepperdine 0-4, Wisconsin found a hard-fought victory over Denver, 4-3. 

Back on their home turf, the Badgers defeated Minnesota by a score of 4-2 before dropping the next two matches to Iowa and Nebraska by scores of 3-4 and 3-4, respectively. 

The Badgers are on a winning streak, as they currently sit 7-4 overall after defeating all four of their last opponents.
