Huskers Take Down Mavericks – University of Nebraska



Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team (7-4, 0-0 Big Ten) swept the Omaha Mavericks (8-5, 1-1 Summit League) 7-0 Wednesday evening at the Dillon Tennis Center. 

The Huskers started off with a bang in doubles competition, with the No. 1 team of Isabel Adrover Gallego and Chloe Kuckelman taking the win over Omaha’s Ines Absisan and Alexia Di Giulio, 6-4. Falling short to the Mavericks on court two was Ellie Kuckelman and Maja Makoric to Natile Lorentz and Keegan VanPelt, 3-6. In the No. 3 spot, Lucy Loy and Vivien Sandberg defeated Addison Miller and Brooke Covington, 6-2. 

 

To start singles playing in the No. 1 spot for the first time this season Adrover Gallego battled and defeated Absisan in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-3. Chloe swept Giulio in the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-0. Sandberg followed suit as she defeated Covington in the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-3. Alicea competed in the No. 4 spot against Omaha’s VanPelt and won 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Lucy Loy competed at the No. 5 spot for the first time this spring and won, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Rounding out singles play was Makoric at the No. 3 spot and defeating Mavericks’ Lorentz 6-4, 6-3.  

Up next, the Huskers will stay home and face Texas Tech on Wednesday, March 16 at 11 a.m. CT.
