Huskers Set for Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays



The Nebraska track and field team hits the road for the fifth straight week as the Huskers head to Champaign, Illinois for the Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays on Friday and Saturday. 

Both days are set to begin with field events at 9 a.m. Running events will begin at 1:50 p.m. on Friday. The women’s 10K will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, followed by 14 relay events.

The Huskers are entering the final two weeks of the regular season before they turn their attention to the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. Next weekend, NU will compete at the Billy Hayes Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana. After a weekend off, the Huskers will return to Champaign, Illinois for the Big Ten Championships. 

Tyler Loontjer continues to lead the Big Ten in the men’s pole vault with his personal-best jump of 17-10 1/2 (5.45m) at the Indiana Big Ten Invitational #1. Joey Daniels ranks second in the 110-meter hurdles (13.57), and Burger Lambrechts Jr. is second in the shot put at 64-0 1/4 (19.51m). All three rank in the top 20 nationally. Daniels has the eighth-best 110-meter hurdles time in the country. Lambrechts Jr. is currently 12th in the shot put, and Loontjer ranks 13th in the pole vault. 

For the women, Judi Jones leads the Big Ten in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her PR of 10:04.75. She ranks 17th nationally. Maddie Harris and Mirta Kulisic rank first and second, respectively, in the women’s javelin. Harris threw a PR 168-8 (51.42m) at the Husker B1G Invitational last weekend. Mirta Kulisic threw 167-6 (51.05m) in Florida earlier this month. Harris and Kulisic rank 21st and 22nd, respectively, in the javelin.
