Harris, Lambrechts Jr. Throw for Titles in Texas



The Nebraska track and field team collected two individual titles on the final day of the Husker B1G Invitational in Prairie View, Texas on Saturday. 

Maddie Harris captured the javelin title for the Husker women, setting a new personal best of 168-8 (51.42m). Harris’ throw moved her up to No. 8 in school history, just ahead of teammate Mirta Kulisic, who finished third in the javelin at the Husker B1G Invitational on Saturday. Kulisic recorded a mark of 161-5 (49.19m), as the Huskers claimed two of the top-three spots on the podium.

Burger Lambrechts Jr. was also victorious, as he brought home the shot put title after a throw of 63-2 1/4 (19.26m). It was his fourth shot put title of 2021 and first of the outdoor season. 

Michael Hoffer was the runner-up in the men’s high jump, his sixth top-two finish of 2021. Hoffer cleared 6-9 3/4 (2.08m). Mayson Conner earned a top-five finish by clearing 6-8 1/4 (2.04m) to come in fifth. Lincoln McPhillips made it over 6-6 1/4 (1.99m) and claimed ninth place. 

Papay Glaywulu and Alexander Thompson were both medalists for the NU men in the triple jump. Glaywulu leaped 51-0 1/4 (15.55m) to finish second, and Thompson jumped an outdoor-best 49-7 3/4 (15.13m) to take third. Matthias Algarin took sixth place at 46-11 3/4 (14.32m). 

Joey Daniels was the second-best collegiate finisher in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.65, and Luke Siedhoff came in fourth in 13.92. For the NU women, LaQwasia Stepney earned bronze with a personal best of 13.61. Darby Thomas also set a PR, 13.75, and finished sixth. 

In the women’s high jump, Madi Scholl captured the bronze medal after clearing 5-8 (1.73m), a new personal best. Madison Yerigan cleared the 5-7 (1.70m) bar to place eighth. 

Tyler Loontjer and Spencer Powell both got over 16-8 1/4 (5.09m) in the men’s pole vault to finish fifth and seventh, respectively. Garrison Hughes cleared 16-2 1/2 (4.94m) to finish ninth. Monica Aldrighetti led the NU women’s pole vaulters in eighth place, clearing 12-11 (3.94m). 

Kristina Insingo posted a shot put of 51-2 1/4 (15.60m) to finish sixth, and Zionn Pearson was also sixth in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 40-4 (12.29m). 

Eric Garner finished sixth in the men’s javelin at 201-3 (61.34m), while Tyler Brown followed in ninth place with a new PR of 197-5 (60.17m). Madison Lueger was ninth in the women’s javelin at 130-6 (39.79m). 

In the decathlon, Zach Podraza scored 7,148 points to finish ninth overall. Podraza had a solid second day with a second-place finish in the javelin, third place in the pole vault and discus and fifth place in the 110-meter hurdles. Kolby Heinerikson took 11th place with 6,660 points. In the heptathlon, Teri Zanker totaled 4,685 points to lead the Husker women in eighth place. 

Kayla Hugg finished ninth for the Husker women in a field of 46 runners in the 200 meters. Hugg posted a personal-best time of 24.67. Alex Nelson was 10th in the men’s 200 meters with a time of 21.45. 

In the 4×100-meter relay, the Husker men were fifth (40.33) and the women were seventh (46.44).

Nebraska heads to Champaign, Illinois next weekend for the Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays on April 23-24.
