Huskers in First After Day One



Shannon Stott led four Huskers in the 500 freestyle top five during Thursday night’s finals session at the Hawkeye Invitational. Stott, a senior from St. Albans, Great Britain, clocked a NCAA B Standard Cut twice on Thursday, with a 4:44.51 in prelims and a 4:44.97 in finals. 

Gena Jorgenson (4:48.19) and Berkeley Livingston (4:48.82) each swam career-best 500 freestyle times to finish third and fourth. Molly Rosenthal joined them in the top five, finishing fifth with a 4:53.33.

Sarah Barton cruised to a career-best 1:59.68, just 0.12 seconds over the NCAA B Standard Cut, to take second place in the 200 IM. Livingston notched another career-best to finish fourth with a 2:01.43, while Sydney McCracken finished fifth with a career-best 2:01.54.

Caitlin Cairns provided the top 50 freestyle finish for NU, taking ninth with a 23.39.

Nebraska ended the day with a runner-up finish in the 400 medley relay (3:38.96) with a team of Madesyn Ronquillio, Maia Hall, Lexi Kucera and Giulia Marchi.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Cairns, Emily Haimes, Kaitlyn Barth and JoJo Randby finished third in 1:32.69.

In the diving well, Kelsey Clairmont landed inside the top ten, finishing ninth with a 264.30.

After the first day of competition, Nebraska is in first place with a score of 239.5. Illinois sits close behind the Huskers with 234. Action is set to begin again on Friday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m. (CT).
