Huskers Claim Relay Win, Lead After Day Two



In the last event of Friday night’s session at the Hawkeye Invitational, Giulia Marchi, Gena Jorgenson, Shannon Stott and Lexi Kucera teamed up to win the 800 freestyle relay title in 7:16.24.

JoJo Randby added to Friday’s highlights, swimming a 100 breaststroke NCAA Standard B Cut time twice, clocking a 1:20.20 in prelims and 1:20.22 in finals. The sophomore from Omaha, Neb. finished in second, with fellow sophomore Maia Hall placing third in 1:01.72.

In the 200 freestyle, Kucera, Jorgenson, Marchi and Stott all swam career-best times. Stott claimed the runner-up spot in 1:47.72, Kucera finished third in 1:48.47 and Jorgenson took fourth with a 1:49.03. Marchi finished right outside the top-five in sixth with a 1:49.63.

Berkeley Livingston swam a 4:17.52 in the 400 IM finals to finish second, while Jorgenson dropped over three seconds from her prelims time to take third in 4:18.31. Sarah Barton finished fourth in 4:19.16, but swam a career-best 4:18.38 in prelims.

Kucera led the Huskers in the 100 butterfly, placing second with a 54.17. Kaitlyn Barth (54.65) and Caitlin Cairns (54.72) finished close behind in third and fourth place.

Madesyn Ronquillio swam a 54.97 in the 100 backstroke to finish third. Gabby Donahue (55.04) and Cairns (56.73) joined Ronquillio in the A-final, while recording career-best times.

NU’s 200 medley relay provided another top finish with a team of Donahue, Hall, Barth and Emily Haimes to place third in 1:40.88.

Kelsey Clairmont scored a 310.60 on the three-meter dive to finish third, while Reagan Hinze took fourth with a 301.10.

Nebraska has a commanding team lead entering the last day of competition with 635.5 points. Rutgers is in second with 495.5 points and Illinois sits in third with 491.

The Huskers will return for the final day of the Hawkeye Invitational tomorrow with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m. (CT).
