Huskers Head Northeast for NCAA Regionals

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Nebraska bowling team hits the road to take on Mercyhurst in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Bowling Regionals on Friday at the AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes.

The Huskers earned a fourth-place seed in the competition and are the highest-ranked seed in the Pittsburgh Regional, which will feature a double-elimination format. In the first round, NU will face Mercyhurst in a mega match beginning at 8 a.m. (CT). A mega match includes a five-person team and baker total pinfall game. The first team to collect two games wins the match. In the event of a 1-1 tie, a best-of-seven baker match will be used to determine a match winner. Based on the results, the Huskers will move on to face either Stephen F. Austin or Duquesne beginning at 2 p.m. (CT). Saturday will consist of the same format for Round Three with Round Four serving as the Regional Finals with a possible Round Five if necessary to break ties.

“The team is excited to enter into the postseason competition,” said Head Coach Paul Klempa. “Preparations have gone well the past few weeks and the group is ready physically and mentally for a postseason run. The regional in Pittsburgh has all good teams involved, so the competition will be fierce and entertaining. We all look forward to the pursuit of a seventh NCAA Championship.”

The winning team from each region (Erie, Pa., Rochester, N.Y., Lansing, Mich., and Arlington, Texas) will advance to compete for the 2023 NCAA title, which is scheduled for April 14-15 at South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas, Nev.

NU enters the postseason with three tournament titles and a 80-37 record. Starting off strong, Nebraska brought home its first title at the Motiv Penguin Classic to start the season. The team then had an undefeated weekend at the Northeast Classic with a massive field of 33 teams and ended the season with its third title at its lone home tournament, the Big Red Invitational.
