Huskers Finish Action at Larry Wieczorek Invitational



IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Nebraska track and field team wrapped up competition at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational at Iowa’s Recreation Building on Saturday. The Huskers collected four individual event titles to bring their meet total to seven.
 
Ieva Turke started the second day of competition by tying her indoor personal record in the triple jump with a jump of 43-0 1/2 (13.12m). Ashley McElmurry took home the bronze and also tied her indoor personal best with a leap of 39-8 (12.09m).
 
The excitement continued for Nebraska as Monica Aldrighetti was victorious in the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 13-5 1/4 (4.10m). Coming in third was Andy Jacobs with a jump of 12-5 1/2 (3.80m), and Jessica Gardner cleared the same height and finished fourth.
 
For the second time in as many weeks, Papay Glaywulu won the men’s triple jump with a mark of 52-8 1/4 (16.06m) after setting a new indoor personal record last week. Coming in third was Matthias Algarin, who set a new indoor PR of 45-4 1/2 (13.83m).
 
Matthew Brown went on to win another individual title for the Huskers with a time of 6.78 in the 60 meters. Chris Ramsey was the runner-up at 6.82. In the 60 meters, Emma Algarin ran a personal record of 7.61 to place fifth.
 
Kayla Hugg placed seventh in the women’s 400 meters and set a season-best time of 56.53. In the women’s 60-meter hurdles, freshman Kerrigan Myers led NU in sixth place with a time of 8.70. George Bokobo (8.25) earned a sixth-place finish for the men in the men’s 60-meter hurdles.

Skyler Peterson finished fourth in the men’s pole vault with a jump of 15-7 (4.75m).

 

The Huskers are back on the road next weekend at the Illinois Combined Event in Champaign, Illinois.
