Huskers Fall to Fighting Illini, 4-0



Lincoln, Nebraska — The University of Nebraska men’s tennis team lost to No. 9 Illinois, 4-0, Sunday afternoon outdoors at the Sid Dillon Tennis Center.
 
The Huskers (1-13, 1-13) started off strong with the duo of No. 74 Brandon Perez and Albert Sprlak-Puk cruising to their second win of the season with a 6-3 victory against the Fighting Illini’s Alex Brown/Lucas Horve. The Fighting Illini won the other two matches at No. 2 and No. 3 to clinch the doubles point. 

Illinois (16-2, 13-1) won singles matches on courts two, five and six to secure the team win. Sprlak-Puk lost his No. 3 matchup against No. 120 Zeke Clark, 2-6, 0-6 before Perez dropped his matchup against No. 39 Hunter Heck in the No. 4 spot. No. 43 Brown closed out the 4-0 Illinois victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win over William Gleason at No. 2.

Shunya Maruyama, Nic Wiedenhorn and Patrick Cacciatore battled in the second set at the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 spots before the match was called.

Nebraska returns to action on Friday, April 16 against Minnesota in Minneapolis.
