Huskers Drop Matchup with Texas Tech

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team (7-5, 0-0 Big Ten) dropped its matchup against Texas Tech (8-6, 0-2 Big 12) 1-4 Wednesday morning at the Dillon Tennis Center. 

The Huskers started off strong in doubles competition as sophomores Isabel Adrover Gallego and Chloe Kuckelman battled Tech’s Cristina Tigela and Margarita Skriabina and won 6-2. Also gaining a doubles win was Ellie Kuckelman and Samantha Alicea in the No. 3 spot as they defeated Metka Komac and Olivia Peet, 6-4. The No. 1 team of Kristina Novak and Maja Makoric finished doubles play with an unfinished match, 5-4. 

 

To start off singles play, Novak dropped a two-set battle to #20 Margarita Skriabin at No. 1, 6-3, 6-3. At No. 3, Adrover Gallego fell in two straight sets to Peet, 6-3, 6-2, and Makoric dropped her match at No. 4, 6-3, 6-0. Ellie Kuckelman and Chloe Kuckelman both ended the day with unfinished matches in the No. 5 and No. 2 spots. Freshman Jillian Roa battled at the No. 6 spot, but dropped a two-set match to Tigela, resulting in an overall win for the Red Raiders.

Up next, the Huskers will stay home and face the Penn State Nittany Lions on Friday, March 18 at 11 a.m. CT.
