Huskers Defeat the Shockers, 6-1

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team (2-2, 0-0 Big Ten) defeated Wichita State (4-3, 0-0 AAC) 6-1 on Sunday at the Dillon Tennis Center. 

The Huskers faced the Shockers in three doubles matches and six singles matches. In doubles, Chloe Kuckelman and Ellie Kuckelman fought back to secure the win, defeating Wichita State’s LingWei Kong and Natsumi Kurahashi, 6-3. Also gaining a doubles win was Kristina Novak and Samantha Alicea, as they defeated Harriet Hamilton and Clara Whitaker, 6-0. Rounding out doubles play was sophomores Isabel Adrover Gallego and Maja Makoric who battled Wichita State’s Dohee Lee and Bianca Rademacher to an unfinished 5-4. 

Nebraska started off with a bang in singles action with three straight wins. Freshman Jillian Roa took the court today and got her first career spring win, knocking off Hamilton, 6-3, 6-1. Ellie faced Rademacher, a Nebraska native, and won, 7-6, 6-4. Novak sealed the win for the Huskers as she dominated the Shockers’ Natsumi Kurahashi, 6-2, 6-1. Androver Gallego and Makoric finished their day off with victories in singles play. At No. 4, Alicea fell short to WSU’s Clara Whitaker, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).

Up next, the Huskers will stay home and face the Kansas Jayhawks on Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. CT.
