Huskers Defeat Scarlet Knights 5-2

Piscataway, N.J.,– The Nebraska women’s tennis team improved to 11-4 on the year following a 5-2 win over Rutgers on Sunday. The Huskers won their 12th doubles point of the season and earned four singles wins to close out the match. The Scarlet Knights fall to 3-12 on the year.

Doubles

Nebraska continued its 2021 doubles success in Sunday’s win over Rutgers. Isabel Adrover Gallego and Claire Reifeis improved to 11-4 on the season with a 6-1 win over Alisa Prinyarux and Tess Fisher at the No. 2 spot. 

Kristina Novak and Maja Makoric sealed the doubles point for NU with a 6-2 win over Maya Jacobs and Chloe Brown at the No. 1 spot. Novak and Makoric are now 5-1 as a duo. 

Singles

With a 1-0 advantage in the match, NU and Rutgers faced off in singles competition. The Huskers struck first as Makoric beat Chloe Brown 6-1, 7-5. The freshman from Slovenia improved to 12-5 on the year with the win. 

Rutgers answered with a win at No. 6 as Hayley Haakenstad fell to Daira Cardenas 6-4, 6-2. 

The Huskers answered with back-to-back singles win. At No. 1, Novak defeated Maya Jacobs 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 and at No. 2 Isabel Adrover Gallego beat Tess Fisher 7-6(4), 7-5. 

NU added one more singles win as Chloe Kuckelman came back after losing the first set to take down Jaci Cochrane 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In the final match of the day, Reifeis fell just short to Sydney Kaplan 7-6(3), 4-6, 10-8 to give Rutgers its second win of the day.
