Huskers Complete Day Two in Illinois

Wrapping up a two-day competition, the Nebraska men’s tennis team took on Northwestern and No. 4 Michigan in a total of eight matches on Sunday in Evanston, Ill.

The Huskers faced last season’s No. 31 ranked Northwestern in three singles matches and one doubles match. Highlighting Sunday’s singles play was freshman Nic Wiedenhorn and sophomore Shunya Maruyama both winning their opening sets before losing the following two sets. Sophomore Albert Sprlak-Puk also fought hard his first set against No. 58 Dominic Stary with a close 7-6 (4) loss and a 6-2 loss in the second set. On the doubles side, Maruyama and Wiedenhorn paired up against Northwestern’s No. 57 Nick Brookes and Simen Bratholm, resulting in an 8-5 loss.

 

Nebraska also faced a No. 4 Michigan team in three singles matches and one doubles match. After having close sets against Northwestern, the Huskers struggled against the Wolverines, losing each single match in straight sets. In doubles, juniors William Gleason and Victor Moreno Lozano faced No. 2 Andrew Fenty and Mattias Siimar, losing 8-4.

 

Up next, Nebraska will compete at home Friday evening for the Big Ten season opener against Purdue at 5 p.m.
