Huskers Claim Tournament Title at Bearcat Hammer Open

Fairview, Ill. – The Nebraska bowling team swept on Sunday to take home the tounament title at the Bearcat Hammer Open. The Huskers finished 9-4 with a total pinfall of 12,943.

The Huskers started Sunday’s Baker matchup with a 4-3 victory against Arkansas State. This win sent the Huskers directly to the championship match.

Nebraska moves on to play McKendree in the championship match. The Huskers started off strong with a win in their first game 245-233, then fell in their second game 203-232. The Huskers continued this pattern of back-and-forth with a game three win 200-166, a game four loss 210-222, a game five win 210-202, and a game six loss 210-220. Nebraska came back in the final game with a win 216-180.

Two Huskers were named to the all-tournament team for their performances this weekend. Senior Cassidy Ray earned a spot for her average of 200.2, along with Junior Kendyl Hofmeister for her average of 196.6.

“I am extremely happy for the team that they were able to win this weekend’s event,” said Head Coach Paul Klempa. “The lane conditions were very demanding all weekend and the players just kept on grinding to get to the championship match. McKendree is such a talented and well-coached team and they took us to a 7th and final game for the title. I am proud of the group for having the determination and resolve to make the shots necessary to win in a final game with the title on the line. We took inventory of what we need to be better at as we move forward from this weekends tournament. We will go home and work on those aspects before hitting the road again in 2 weeks. This was a nice start for Husker Bowling.”

The Huskers will return to the lanes November 5th-7th at the Track Kat Klash in Houston, TX.
