Huskers Battle, But Fall to the Buckeyes



Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team (8-6, 1-1 Big Ten) battled, but fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes (10-4, 2-0 Big Ten) 4-3 Sunday morning at the Dillon Tennis Center. 

The competition started with doubles play. On court three was Ellie Kuckelman and Samantha Alicea as they faced Kolie Allen and Lucia Marzal, but fell 2-6. In the No. 2 spot, Chloe Kuckelman and Isabel Adrover Gallego battled Kathleen Jones and Isabelle Boulais, but dropped their match 3-6. Kristina Novak and Maja Makoric faced Sydni Ratliff and Irina Cantos Siemers to an unfinished 3-5 on court one. 

 

Singles play then kicked off with Ohio State up 1-0. Novak dropped her matchup to Boulais in the No. 1 spot, 3-6, 3-6. Sandberg swept Atwaty in the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 7-5. Adrover Gallego fell short to Buckeyes’ Siemers in the No. 2 spot, 1-6, 3-6. Alicea competed in the No. 5 spot against Ohio State’s Marzal and got the second singles win for the Huskes, 5-7,6-4,10-7. At the No. 3 spot, sophomore Makoric fought hard for the 3-6,7-5,10-6 win. At the No. 4 spot, C. Kuckelman lost to the Buckeyes’ Allen 1-6, 6-3, 2-6.  

Up next, the Huskers will travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to face Purdue on Saturday, March 26 at noon CT.
