Huskers Advance to B1G Quarterfinals

West Lafayette, Ind. – The No. 10 seed Nebraska women’s tennis team defeated the No. 7 seed Purdue 4-3 on Thursday afternoon at the 2023 Big Ten Tournament. With the win, the Huskers advance to Friday’s quarterfinals against No. 2 seed Ohio State at 2 p.m. CT.
 
Competition began with doubles play. On Court 3, Lucy Loy and Vivien Sandberg bested Juana Larranaga and Kennedy Gibbs, 6-2. The No. 45 doubles team of Samantha Alicea and Raphaëlle Lacasse only dropped one doubles match this season when they played Purdue during their regular season matchup. In the No. 1 position, the duo had a rematch against Purdue’s Tara Katarina Milic and Liz Norman, and Nebraska came out on top, clinching the doubles point, 6-3. The match on Court 2 went unfinished. 
 
With the Huskers up 1-0 overall, singles competition began. In the No. 3 spot, Carmen Zamburek fell to Carmen Gallardo Guevara, 6-0, 6-1. On Court 1, Isabel Adrover Gallego dropped the match to Norman, 6-1, 6-4. Anfisa Danilchnko grabbed a point for the Huskers when she bested Purdue’s Milic, 6-3, 6-3. In the No. 6 position, Jillian Roa defeated Larranaga 6-4, 6-4, grabbing another point for the Huskers. On Court 4, Lacasse was bested by Gibbs in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, making the overall score 3-3. The deciding match played out on Court 2 where Alicea clinched the match against Csilla Fodor, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.
