Huskers’ Adrover Gallego and Lacasse Secure Spot in ITA Regional Quarterfinals

Lawrence, Kan. – The Huskers’ tennis team made notable strides in the ITA Regionals, with the pairing of Isabel Adrover Gallego and Raphaëlle Lacasse emerging victorious and earning their place in Sunday’s doubles quarterfinals.

The third day of competition at the ITA Regionals was intense, kicking off with doubles matches. The highlight of the day came as Adrover Gallego and Lacasse triumphed over Oklahoma’s duo of Florencia Urrutia and Ava Catanzarite with an assertive 8-3 scoreline. The dynamic Husker pair now look ahead to their next challenge, setting their sights on Arkansas’ Morgan Cross and Indianna Spink. The quarterfinals showdown is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 15, at 9 a.m. CT.

While the Huskers celebrated the success of Adrover Gallego and Lacasse, other pairings faced tough competition. The duos of Jillian Roa and Maria Taranova, Lucy Loy and Maja Pietrowicz, and Anfisa Danilchenko and Ana Zamburek displayed commendable efforts but couldn’t clinch victories in their respective matches.

On the singles front, Maria Taranova narrowly missed out on a win, facing a close defeat to Oklahoma State’s Kristina Novak with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-7 (4). Meanwhile, Isabel Adrover Gallego battled hard but faced a setback against Oklahoma State’s Raquel Gonzalez, losing 6-2, 3-6, 1-6. In a separate consolation draw, Jillian Roa exhibited grit by claiming victory in the Round of 16 but found the consolation quarterfinals challenging, resulting in a 6-4, 6-3 defeat.

The ITA Regionals serve as a valuable platform for teams to measure their skills and strategies against top-tier competition. The Huskers, despite facing mixed results, have showcased their tenacity and talent, ensuring fans remain hopeful for continued success.
